…towards equipping the total man!

December 2012

Fear not!

Today is the last day of 2012 and like most people, in anticipation of the unknown 2013, I found my thoughts today drifting towards how well I did with my goals for the year. One profound discovery I made was that nearly all the things I believed God for this year that never came to pass were actually my own doing. I trusted God to make my dreams come true but my faith was a fearful one because it lacked action.

There is a faith that believes but a believing faith never produces results until it translates to an acting faith. Someone once said that “life will always bow down to a man with faith”. It’s faith in action that causes you to take that first necessary step. It’s simply an acting faith that makes you get up each time you fall, begin again when you make a mistake and refuse to give up against all odds.

Fear is one force that cripples our faith. It breeds doubt and consequently erodes our confidence. The uncertainty associated with it paralyses our actions as they oftentimes make us doubt even our personal convictions and beliefs. We fear failing and so fail to act. We then find ourselves trusting God to part the red sea, yet hiding the rod behind our backs.

As we journey into 2013, let us rid ourselves of every fear and anxiety over all our aspirations and trust God to make our dreams come true. For He has not given us the spirit of fear but of love, power and sound mind [2Timothy 1:7] and in my humble opinion, especially if they are in line with His perfect will for us, God can actually without our lifting a finger make all things happen for us but He always requires us to take that first leap of faith as a sign of our total dependence on Him. That’s faith in action! That’s when He takes all the glory! That’s when He’ll do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine!

I see us doing exploits in 2013 in Jesus name!

A sure way to victory!

We all generally respond to life in two ways. We either proactively develop our potentials in preparation for the opportunity we expect in our future or reactively develop our potentials in response to tough situations life hands us. It’s the first law of motion. We are either pushing at life or life is pushing at us.

Our being proactive drives us towards seeking purpose and taking definitive steps towards finding fulfillment. However, every now and then, life’s challenges forces us to reactively re-evaluate our paths, and oftentimes could steer us in an entirely different route especially when such challenges reveals the folly in our laid out strategies and projections.

Our two faceted reactions towards life determines our path towards fulfillment. Our proactivity enables us to chart these paths for ourselves while our reactivity causes us, at some point to change or modify plans and sometimes purpose(s) because as we grow older, we become wiser and our value systems often changes. Sometimes they do as a result of having a better understanding of ourselves and what our true desires should be. At other times, it could be failure to reach our desired expectations or the sudden realization/experience of the dire consequences of our plan of actions. We are forced to retrace our steps or stick to our original plan at our own peril.

Life, as they often say is not a bed of roses. It’s challenges can be overwhelming. Sometimes they are self inflicted, other times, life’s just unfair but I tell you what, inspite of life’s fluctuating modes, one sure anchor you can trust to never fail is Jesus Christ!

He offers stability like no other. He would drive you towards purpose, guide and guard you every step of the way! Trust Him to be in charge of your life and in all things, you will experience peace beyond understanding. Your life will be filled with so much blessings than you could ever imagine or ask for and when you surrender control to Him, all you need do is let Him be your guide, remain steadfast in His loving care and like me, your song would always be;

His oath, His covenant, and blood.
Support me in the ‘whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand!

Conscience is an open wound, only truth can heal it… Uthman Dan Fodio.

A christmas story!

Well, It’s funny I woke up this morning wondering what life would be without christmas. As a christian, that’s like wondering what life would be without God’s plan for redemption. There probably would not be any reason to wine, dine and have fun today as Christ’s birth would have been nonexistent. We would have been living with the sinful nature of the first Adam and maybe keep atoning for our sins with blood of rams, cows, goats and what have you. There would have been no hope for mankind for God’s purpose for creating man would have been defeated. But God so loved us that He gave us the second Adam, His only son to restore mankind to Himself (John 3:16). He came that we may have life in abundance (John 10:10). He paid the ultimate price, completely atoned for our sins even while we are yet sinners. The Lamb of God humbly came on a day like this some thousand of years ago to perfect God’s plan for redeeming mankind. As significant as His birth is, the cradle is nothing without the cross. The real gift of christmas was delivered on Good Friday, so while we celebrate, share and dine with friends, folks and all, let’s not loose sight of the reality and reason for the season. Jesus, it is! If you don’t have a relationship with Him yet, now is a very wonderful time to ask Him to be your Lord and personal saviour. It’s a decision you’ll forever have reasons to be thankful for!

Merry Christmas!

Competence is beauty; it is aesthetic. Yet we know the easier a thing is made to look, the greater the sacrifice of study and years of hardwork that stand behind it.

Enjoying grace!

A friend asked me today what my greatest fear was, and it really did take some digging deep to get an answer. Of all the smartest things I could think of, I realized my greatest fear is to live outside of God’s plans for me. Living outside of His plan will be one big exercise in futility. The Psalmist wrote:

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain”. Psalm 127:1 [ESV]

This verse is an indication of our need for total dependence on God. Without His direction and enabling, we stand no chance of doing the things He’s called us to do. Outside of His will, man’s achievement eventually becomes an aimless toil that never truly satisfies. For in him we live, and move, and have our being.

He is God, He knows the end from the beginning, I can be sure His leading and perfect will for me is in my best interest. It doesn’t matter how rough the road may seem right now. I’ll always strive to do His will in all I think, or speak, or do. Outside of Him is so much fear but in Him there’s no spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind! My definition of success is shaped within His divine plans for me. I’m determined to walk in His plans and purpose for me!

It’s all about His grace!

Be anxious for nothing!

It actually dawned on me this morning that I had unconsciously adopted this habit of thanking God while praying in the morning. I mean, it’s the only thing I do. I don’t really know when it started but I think it was at some point that I got confused about what to ask for. It was a point at which I thought I had it all figured out and just after it all blew up in my face even inspite of the ceaseless planning and toiling.

Well, I realized strenght, wits and wisdom can actually fail, affirmed how imperfect man can be and decided to trust Him to guide, guard and mould me into His perfect overall plan and purpose for me! I’ve learnt to just flow into His leading, trust Him for directions especially with my plans and watch His counsel stand. Worrying doesn’t solve problems neither does planning so I’m saying bye bye to every anxiety over my desires and plans, and I’m learning to put it all at the Master’s feet.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 [ESV].

If God says it, I believe it and so shall it be! I have decided to cast all my cares and plans on Jesus Christ and will just keep thanking my way to victory. Shallom!

Hakuna Matata!

I was on my way home today when I realized my ATM card was missing. Well, it wouldn’t have been much of a big deal some few years back but today I panicked! Not because I had billions in the bank anyway but my entire savings is in that account and I knew my PIN ‘s not much of a secret. I called my account officer but unfortunately he had left the office and wouldn’t be able to de-activate the card till tomorrow. I was desperately trying to take my mind off it when it hit me!

What if I wake up tomorrow to discover my entire savings gone? I don’t want to imagine what I’ll do because even the thought of it sure gives me the jitters but then, that’s life. Nothing is ever certain. People loose money, friends and loved ones. Someone once said “the only constant thing in life is change” and if change is constant, adaptation is sure its antidote.

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track” – Proverbs 3:5-6 [MSG]

There are some life’s challenges that you just can’t solve by preparation and planning. There are some decisions you can’t be too careful about. Man is frail. We all make mistakes. Our everyday lives are so filled with changing tides, decisions and circumstances, that life often times could be chaotic and capricious. Whatever hand that life’s dealt you, trusting the unchanging God is a very sure antidote! He’ll not just keep you on track but you can be rest assured, He’s working it out for your good!

Hakuna Matata!!!

Think Strategy!

Wow! It’s the beginning of the second half of the twelfth month. 2012’s gradually winding up. It’s the season of general stock taking as resolutions for the oncoming year are being compiled.

Man’s insatiable desires and his endless quest for relevance would forever drive him to conceive, aim for, and plan towards reaching his goal(s) even in the face of unrealized dreams and shattered hopes.

As the year draws to a close, it is imperative we realize that as much as planning is key to succeeding, the fundamental strategy is to always remember the God factor as being the master key! Joshua 1:8 emphasizes the fact that the only way you can be prosperous and have good success is to meditate, confess and do the word. In other words, if you are not doing it God’s way and in line with His Will and purpose for your life, no matter how hard you work or plan, you are not getting GOOD success!

Yeah! It’s great to think, dream, plan and work hard at it but God’s purpose eventually prevails (Proverbs 19:21). He knows the end from the beginning and if He cares for the sparrow, be rest assured He has you in mind. I’ll tell you what, it’s only His blessings that comes with no iota of sorrow so while you are thinking strategy, let Him be the centre of your universe. You’ll sure be glad you did!
